The Peets organization for wellbeing & Emergency Relief

A 501(c)(3) Organization

Why our Mission Matters

The Peets Organization for Wellbeing & Emergency Relief (POWER) stands as a lifeline for HBCU students facing unexpected financial crises. We are dedicated to bridging the gap between adversity and opportunity, ensuring that these challenges do not derail the academic journeys of promising scholars. Our mission is clear: to remove barriers such as food insecurity and unforeseen financial burdens, fostering an environment where students can continue to thrive both academically and personally.

At POWER, we believe in the transformative power of education, and we are committed to helping HBCU students overcome obstacles, so they can reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond.

The following data highlights the urgent need for our work, underscoring the critical role that timely support plays in the success of these students.

Over 70% of HBCU students are eligible for Pell Grants, indicating a high level of financial need among the student population.

Nearly 60% of HBCU students face food insecurity at some point during their college journey, significantly impacting their ability to focus on academics.

Students who receive emergency financial assistance are 80% more likely to stay enrolled and graduate compared to those who do not receive support

The average amount needed to prevent a student from dropping out due to a financial crisis is often less than $1,000, showing that small interventions can make a significant impact.
